- Setting Up the Bird App
1. Download the Bird app. Save time by downloading and setting up the Bird app before setting out to find and ride a Bird. The application is available free of charge from the Apple Store and Google Play under the name "Bird - Enjoy The Ride". The application icon has a black background with a white wing icon.
2. Grant permissions to the Bird app. When you launch the app for the first time, you will be asked for permission to access your location and send notifications. You must allow the app to do this so it can find and find available scooters near you.
You can select "Only while using the app" option to prevent the app from accessing your location without your permission. It's up to you whether you want the app to send you notifications or not.
3. Enter your email address and click "Drive".

6. Find a bird. You can find an available Bird scooter using the map on the app's start screen, which also shows information about the scooter (battery, kilometers, etc.). Click on the icon of the bird you want to rent.
7. Go to your bird. The Bird scooter you have selected may be some distance from your current location. If so, go to your bird's location. If you are already standing near your Bird, you can skip this step. Look for Bird Scooters that appear on the sidewalks or in an open area. Don't try to find scooters that appear in a building. 9. Choose a ride. To use the scooter you must unlock it. Tap the "DRIVE" button at the bottom center of the home screen. The app switches to camera mode so you can scan the QR code on the scooter. The code is located on the panel between the scooter's handlebars.
10. Scan the code. Center the QR code in your phone's camera window. The app will automatically scan the code. You will then be asked to enter your driver's license and agree to the user agreement (only required if this is your first time renting a Bird). 12. Lock your Bird Scooter when not in use. If you need to stop somewhere and get off your Bird Scooter, lock it with the app. This will prevent others from riding your Bird and allow you to return to it when you are ready. To lock your Bird and come back to it later, click "Lock". Then click "Continue Driving" when you come back.
Leaving a Bird scooter locked will increase the fare. Remember how long you leave a scooter locked before using it again! Birds have an initial rental fee of $1 and are then charged per minute of use. Typical rates range from $0.15 to $0.20 per minute depending on the city.
13. Finish your ride. When you are finished using the Bird, park it near a bike rack if one is nearby. Avoid blocking public pathways. Click "End Ride" to end your ride and make your Bird available for the next user.
The app will switch back to camera mode so you can check that you parked the Bird correctly. Position the scooter in your camera window and click "End Ride" to exit.
