How To Fold A Razor Scooter With 12 Steps
How To Fold A Razor Scooter - Razor Scooters are a fun tool for anyone who wants to zip around their neighborhood in style. When you're done riding, you can easily fold it thanks to some release levers. Both regular and Jr. Razor scooters have these levers that you push to fold your ride. If you have trouble doing this, check the components to make sure they are clean and working. Razor electric scooters are not designed to fold, but you can take them apart by removing the fasteners where the levers are usually located. Once you have folded your scooter, store it until you are ready to drive again.
- Release the locking levers
1. Place the scooter on the ground and step on it with one foot. Set it down to keep it stable while releasing the locking mechanisms. Then place your foot between the wheels of the foot stand. Press your foot down firmly and hold the handlebars to keep the scooter from moving.
Although Razor Scooters are easy to fold, they need to be folded in a specific way. If you do not stabilize the scooter and release the release levers in time, the scooter could unfold.
Watch your fingers when folding the scooter. There isn't much of a risk of getting caught by the moving components, but you should still keep your fingers free to be safe.
2. Press the release buttons on the handles to pull out the handles. The scooter has a small button on the back of each handlebar. When you're behind the handlebars, the buttons are right in front of you. Press one of the buttons, then pull the nearest handle away from the rest of the scooter. Repeat with the opposite handle.
Most Razor scooters can be folded without removing the handles. Just unlock the other levers. If you have trouble, try pulling the handles out first.
The Razor Jr. scooter type is much easier as it is intended for younger children. It doesn't have the handlebar buttons or the steering column clasp, so you only have to worry about that last release lever.
3. Pull the latch on the side of the steering column. The front part of the scooter, which contains the handlebars and is connected to the foot pad, is adjustable. Look for a round piece of metal about halfway up the handlebars. One side of the lever is a latch that you can pull away from the scooter.
If you assembled the scooter yourself, you may have used this quick release lever to raise the steering column so that the handlebars are at a comfortable height.
4. Push the steering column down as far as it will go. You can adjust the steering column by loosening the fastener. To start folding the scooter, lower the handlebars. Push down on the handlebars with one hand while holding the steering column with the other hand. The steering column lowers and disappears into the main part of the scooter. Close the catch again to fix the steering column.
The tube is the component that controls the height of the handlebars. When you are ready to ride the scooter, release the latch and raise the handlebars again.
5. Turn the scooter upside down while holding the steering column. Get off the scooter and then turn it over. The steering column is loose, so hold the handlebars tight to prevent them from slipping out. You can hold the handlebars against the ground or your body to make sure the steering column doesn't pop back out of the scooter.
If the steering column comes out again, the scooter will not fold properly. Turn the scooter over again and press the handlebars down again.
6. Squeeze the joint release lever on the bottom of the scooter. Hold the steering column and grasp the pivot release lever with your free hand. It is located near the front wheel, near where the steering column connects to the footpad. Flip the lever to the side to release the locking mechanism. As soon as you turn it over, the scooter folds almost automatically into a shape that is easy to transport.
As long as you have the scooter upside down, gravity will do most of the folding. If necessary, push the steering column component down towards the foot pad to compact the scooter.
If you're trying to fold a Razor Jr., that's the only lever you'll have to deal with. It is located on the back of the steering column, just in front of the footpad.
7. Unfold the scooter by pressing the release lever. Hold the scooter in your hands and then push the quick release lever towards the foot pad. After pressing it, pull the handlebar in the opposite direction to open the scooter. After that you can open the latch and pull the steering column up to adjust it to the desired height. Close the clasp to lock it.
Unfolding the scooter should be as easy as folding it. If you have trouble with it, first check the release lever for dirt and other signs of damage.
- Troubleshooting a stuck scooter
8. Pull the pivot release lever fully open to release the steering column. Make sure the latch is not pinched. When closed, it faces down toward the front wheel. Pull it up so it faces the handlebars. If it doesn't open fully, it will prevent you from folding the scooter.
The lever allows you to fold the scooter in half. It can also prevent you from reopening the scooter when it is in the locked position.
9. Move the handlebars if they prevent the scooter from folding. Check that you have pulled the handlebars as far away from the steering column as possible. If you have a scooter that requires you to move them, they can get in the way of the footpad. Firmly press the release buttons on the handlebars and then move them as far away from the steering column as possible.
Remember that the handlebars must lie flat on the footpad. If they face the foot pad when folding the scooter, open the steering column latch to turn it over.
10. Wipe sticky levers with a damp cloth to remove dirt. If you cannot fully open the quick release lever and the steering column lock, you cannot fold the scooter effectively. Dampen a cloth or paper towel with some lukewarm water, then remove as much dirt as possible. Then try the levers to see if they work.
Cleaning products are not recommended by the manufacturer, so you don't need to use anything special to keep your scooter looking like new. Alcohol and ammonia based products can actually damage plastics and stickers.
11. Disassemble the scooter to clean it if you still cannot fold it. A significant amount of dirt may have accumulated which is preventing the parts from moving. You will need a 5mm allen wrench to remove the steering column. Turn the screw in the clasp counterclockwise to loosen it. Then use a 3mm hex wrench to remove the bolt in the quick release lever between the footpad and the steering column.
Remember that you'll have to put the pieces back together when you're done. If doing it alone seems too complicated for you, contact Razor or take the scooter to a repair shop.
12. Clean the metal parts with an oil-based lubricant. Spray some WD-40 or some other cleaner on the levers to get them working again. Use an old rag to wipe away any dirt you notice on the metal. If they look clean, reassemble the scooter and test again. If the levers still don't work, contact the Razor support hotline.
Only use oil on metal parts. It could damage plastic or decals so not worth risking the rest of the scooter. Clean these components with clean water.
You may be able to lubricate the levers before removing them. Try spraying some oil behind the stuck lever. Leave it on for 2 or 3 minutes and then try pulling the lever again.
